5 Reasons You Can’t Miss the 2018 DiverseCity Festival in Charlottetown

Year after year, PEI’s DiverseCity Multicultural Street Festival gets bigger (and dare we say, better!) - a reflection of the Island’s rich, ever-growing cultural tapestry.  We love seeing Queen St. transformed into a pedestrian space where the sights, sounds and tastes of cultures from around the world mingle together in a celebration of diversity and the human spirit.  The 2018 DiverseCity Festival takes place Sunday, June 24th and we’re slinging out 5 reasons you can’t miss this year’s edition, though there are definitely more than 5!

1. Unbelievably Talented Dancers

Dancing is the universal language of the body and has always been an important, unique way for people to express themselves and share their culture with others. At DiverseCity you’ll be mesmerized by the movements and talents of dancers from across the globe and, hey, you might even be inspired to join in the fun and strut your stuff!

2.  Global Flavours =  #NomNom

Food is often the first introduction people have to a new culture, offering a first taste of the time-honoured traditions and unique flavours that have been passed down for generations.  In Charlottetown, you’ll discover a flourishing and diverse restaurant scene that reflects the growing number of newcomers settling in the city. And with +30 food vendors at DiverseCity serving up everything from German pastries to Asian noodles to Mexican cuisine, your hardest decision of the day might be where you’re going to eat.

3.  Mighty Impressive Cultural Demonstrations

From kung fu to karate to calligraphy DiverseCity is filled with all sorts of ways to engage with cultures from around the world.  This year, you can even take part in a free salsa dancing workshop - get ready to give your hips a workout!

4. Live Music All Day & Night

Oh the musical talents to be soaked up! DiverseCity’s mainstage stays busy all day and night with talented instrumentalists and singers of all ages sharing culturally-rich music that’ll give you feel-good tingles and goosebumps. Make sure you stick around for I and the Village featuring guest Sergey Varlamov.  You won’t see this 10-person band perform anywhere else, as they’re coming together specifically to deliver high energy vibes to the DiverseCity Festival again (they debuted at the 2017 Festival).

5. It’s Free, It’s Family-Friendly & It’s Fantastic

Yes, that’s right, it’s the triple threat of ‘Fs’ at DiverseCity! So bring the whole family along for a memorable day of celebration that’s budget-friendly and soul-stirring. Be sure you visit the many exhibitors that will be at the Festival, stop to take in the cultural demonstrations, and bring along a few dollars in case you’re tempted by the food vendors (pretty much guaranteed!).
