There's SO much to do in Charlottetown during the winter season! Don't believe it? Read on for 69 winter-friendly things you can do in PEI's capital city (and beyond) this year! 
 

  1. Book yourself a family getaway to Atlantic Canada’s biggest winter celebration, Jack Frost WinterFest (Feb 15 - 18, 2019)

  2. Grab your skates and hit one of the city’s outdoor skating rinks. Check the City's website for rink locations and updates on current conditions.  

  3. Take a brew tour with PEI Brewing Co. or Upstreet Craft Brewing

  4. Feed your inner bookworm at The Bookmark, an independent bookstore in the Confederation Court Mall specializing in local and Atlantic Canadian authors.

  5. Discover why Charlottetown is called the Birthplace of Canada by visiting the Story of Confederation at the Confederation Centre of Arts (call to book a private tour).

  6. Split a bottle of wine with a fellow wine lover during Wine Wednesdays at Marc’s Lounge

  7. Take part in WinterLove PEI and join the movement to embrace winter.

  8. Catch the Island Storm, part of the National Basketball League (NBL), in action at the Eastlink Centre and join Island fans in cheering them on to victory!

  35. Try out archery tag on Saturdays at 8pm at 68 Allen Street. It is a dodgeball-style game with foam-tipped arrows. Cost is $10 for two hours of gameplay.  

  36. Climb to new heights on the Red Rock Climbing Wall in Stratford.

  37. Learn the ancient art of swordplay at the Maritime Sword School where you can learn Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA)

  39. Get your trivia on! During the winter, Charlottetown transforms into a trivia town, with several bars and pubs hosting trivia throughout the week.   51. Pay a visit to the Confederation Centre Public Library during your PEI getaway. Fill out an online application for your free library card before you travel, so you’ll be all set to borrow books and cds while you’re visiting. The library also loans less conventional items such as ukeleles, telescopes, fitness kits and yoga mats! 

  52. Bust out your ‘burger pants’ and visit any time during April for beefy experience courtesy of PEI Burger Love. Last year 84 Island restaurants participated in this friendly culinary competition, which showcases the creative talents of local chefs and celebrates Island beef.

  53. Visit the PEI Regiment Museum for fascinating insights into the history of military forces on the Island.

  54. Grab a pint of local brew at staff prices any Wednesday in January at The Gahan House and enjoy live, acoustic music by local talents starting at 8pm.

  55. Bring your fatbike along and give it some winter loving on 10 kms of groomed trails accessible via the Nordic lodge at Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park!

  56. Wile away some time perusing the extensive collection of vinyl records at Charlottetown’s beloved hub for the local music community,  Back Alley Music. While you’re there, take a peek at the vegan menu on offer at Stir It Up!, located in the back of the music shop, and treat yourself to a delicious veg burger, salad or soup!  

  57. Have a magical time at the Happy Potter in nearby Stratford, where you can make-your-own and paint-your-own pottery, or enjoy other creative pursuits such as slime making and paint-on-canvas!

  61. Sing your heart out on Thursday nights at The Factory Downtown during karaoke with Singin' Scuba Steve or if you fancy getting your dance groove on, you’ll want to check out their Retro Reward 80s Dance Party (Fridays) or 90s Video Dance Party (Saturdays)

  62. Head to the city’s black box theatre, The Guild, for community productions including theatre, improv, music, and more. Be sure to visit the gallery on the lower level, where rotating exhibitions of local art are on display.

Whether you’re a curling newbie or an old hand at this classic Canadian sport involving ice and rocks, you’re sure to have a blast at the Charlottetown Curling Club.  Take part in one of their Adult Learn to Curl events, rent some ice time, OR if you happen to be visiting on January 18th, join in WinterLove PEI’s kick-off and curling party!

  64. Fancy checking out PEI’s other city? Only an hour west of the capital, Summerside offers plenty of winter fun for all ages. Check out the City’s Active Winter site for outdoor activities and be sure to stop at Samuel’s Coffee House, a local favourite offering up hot drinks and hearty eats.

  65. Art lovers and culture seekers will want to make some time to visit the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. This national gallery features Canadian artists in a mix of traditional and contemporary forms and makes for a perfect morning or afternoon date with art.
