Metered Street Parking & Payment Options

Parking meters are enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This means that you can enjoy FREE parking in the evenings and on weekends!

Meters in the City of Charlottetown take dimes, quarters, loonies and toonies. Don't have coins? No problem!  The City of Charlottetown has introduced a metered parking payment option. As of Oct. 27, 2014, motorists can use Hotspot Parking. Download the HotSpot App for free or visit the website to create a user account with creditcard information. Pay for metered parking through the secured App or by texting Hotspot at: 902-201-0466.

HotSpot can:

  • warn users when time on the meter is about to expire;
  • be set for automatic meter top-ups through the App (up to the maximum amount of time allowed for the metered space; and
  • top up the meter via text messaging in one-hour increments (up to the maximum amount of time allowed for the metered space).

HotSpot technology is available through iOS, Android, or Text Messaging on any cell phone that has texting capabilities. HotSpot can be used with any major credit card or visa debit card. Payments are handled safely and securely through Stripe™

HotSpot users simply load their secured account through any major credit card or visa debit card and replenish the balance once it is used up. Hotspot uses the same fees charged by the City of Charlottetown for parking at a meter.

Free Parking Program

The City of Charlottetown, in cooperation with Downtown Charlottetown, has a Park Free Program. Shop downtown at participating merchants and receive one hour of free street side metered parking or in one of three downtown parkades.

Overnight Winter Parking

Having overnight winter parking restrictions in place allows for road safety operations. Because traffic is not as heavy during the overnight hours, snow cleaning and winter maintenance can be done in a more efficient and effective way, which helps crews meet service delivery standards for snow removal.

On-street parking in the City is prohibited between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. from November 15 to April 15 each year. These restrictions may be enforced on a discretionary basis as snow plowing and clearing or de-icing needs to take place. These parking restrictions apply to all vehicles, including those with residential parking permits. PLEASE NOTE: In addition to overnight parking restrictions, motorists should also be aware that under the Provincial Highway Traffic Act and the City Traffic Bylaw, vehicles can be removed from the roadway at any time should they be parked in such a manner that the vehicle impedes the removal of snow from the roadway.

Motorists should avoid parking vehicles on City streets during or shortly after a heavy snowfall when roadways are not cleared to the curb.
