Gerry O’Malley is a widower and farmer living alone. The entire play takes place in Gerry’s farmhouse in central Ireland. Dorrie Sinnott is a local widow, who comes in to clean for him once a week. Dorrie fancies Gerry and has high hopes that wedding bells will ring for them some day. But local bachelor farmer, Jack O’Dowd fancies Dorrie, having courted her some years previously before she was married to someone else. There is a new woman in town that Gerry fancies and the plot thickens and Gerry being colour blind doesn’t help.
